Translate ATAK

The Native ATAK phone speaks French and English. Give it your language: translate alone or as a team in a shared pack, check, then download a translation mod ready to publish on the Workshop. No account, free.

04Download

The zip holds the complete mod, ready to load in Arma 3: the PBO built here with the approved translations, the mod.cpp, a Workshop preview image, the description to paste on Steam and the addon sources to sign or rebuild it.

The PBO is not signed: it works in singleplayer, locally and on servers that do not check signatures. For the others, sign it with your own key (step 4 below). A private key must never leave your PC: that is why the site does not sign for you.

05Publish on the Steam Workshop

Can the mod be sent to the Workshop from this page? No. Steam only creates a Workshop item from a program signed in to your own account (Arma 3 Publisher or SteamCMD); no website can do it without your Steam credentials, and we will never ask for them. With the zip, publishing takes a few minutes:

  1. 01

    Install Arma 3 Tools

In Steam: Library > Tools > Arma 3 Tools (free for Arma 3 owners). It contains Publisher and DSUtils.

  2. 02

    Unzip

Put the @COMSPEC_ATAK_Lang_xx folder wherever you like, for example next to your other mods. Do not rename the PBO.

  3. 03

    Test in game

Arma 3 Launcher > Mods > More > Add local mod: pick the folder. Start with COMSPEC ATAK Native, open the phone, Settings > Language, pick your language.

  4. 04

    Sign (recommended)

Arma 3 Tools > DSUtils: create a key (a .biprivatekey you keep to yourself and a public .bikey), then drop the .pbo on it to sign: a .bisign appears next to it. Copy the .bikey into the mod’s keys folder. Server admins will add that .bikey.

  5. 05

    Publish with Arma 3 Publisher

Arma 3 Tools > Publisher > Create a new item. Folder: the mod folder. Title: the one in workshop_description.txt. Image: preview.jpg from the zip. Description: paste the text of workshop_description.txt. Pick the visibility, then Publish. Accept the Workshop agreement if Steam asks, otherwise the item stays hidden.

  6. 06

    Declare the dependency

On your item’s Steam page: Add/Remove Required Items, then add COMSPEC ATAK Native (and CBA_A3). Steam will download them for everyone who subscribes to your translation.

  7. 07

    Tell the community

Share your Workshop item link on the COMSPEC Discord: we can list it on the mod page.

Updating after a new COMSPEC version

Reopen your pack link (or resume your .txt file): the new sentences of the version show up under “To translate”. Download the new zip, replace the PBO in your folder (sign it again with the same key), then in Publisher pick your existing item and Update, with a change note.

For power users: SteamCMD

The zip also holds workshop_item.vdf. Replace the paths with yours, then: steamcmd +login your_account +workshop_build_item path\workshop_item.vdf +quit. After the first publish, add the "publishedfileid" line Steam gives you for updates.

The rules to know
  • Translate from English or French, whichever you prefer. The French text is the key: it is never changed.
  • Keep %1, %2…: they are replaced by a value (a distance, a name, a time). You can move them inside the sentence.
  • %% shows a % sign. Keep it as is.
  • Keep tags such as <t color='…'>…</t> and <br/>: they format the text.
  • A sentence left empty is shown in English. You can publish a partial translation and complete it later.

Translation settings

Translate as a team

Turn this translation into a shared pack: your sentences are sent to the server and anyone with the contributor link can complete the pack at the same time as you.

  • No account: one secret link per pack, a free nickname per person.
  • Each sentence keeps its author and history; two people on the same sentence are warned.
  • You can approve each suggestion before it enters the pack.
  • You can cut the link at any time and hand out a new one.
